Long time winemaker out of St. Helena, California, Stacy Clark, has been hired as the consulting winemaker for the Clarksburg Wine Company.
For over 25 years Clark was the winemaking backbone for one of Napa Valley’s finest wineries, Pine Ridge Vineyards, providing some of the regions’ most critically acclaimed wines during her tenure. Clark graduated from U.C. Davis in 1983, immediately going to work at Pine Ridge as an enologist.
“Stacy was absolutely the first choice for this position,” said Clarksburg Wine Company President, John Beckman. “Clark has a flawless background as well as experience making wine from Clarksburg area fruit,” Beckman said. “We are thrilled to be working with her!”
Clark said she sees this as an opportunity to try a lot of new things, with great wines that offer value as well, opening the door to a lot of wine drinkers.
“Clarksburg winegrowers are excited about the future of this area. They are very motivated and progressive in moving the area forward,” Clark said.
Clark is looking forward to joining the Clarksburg Wine Company. She said Clarksburg has a legacy for growing high quality wine grapes, with aromatic white varieties and full-bodied reds, noting these kinds of wines are easy to try and enjoy. Along with other varietals, Clark will be working on a Chenin Blanc and Petite Syrah, signature grapes for the Delta and Clarksburg Appellation.
Clark said she thinks the Clarksburg district can surprise people for many reasons; including the climate, the history and the enthusiasm and potential for growth. She said a number of the growers are experimenting with newer clones and farming techniques.
In addition to crafting the first release of the Clarksburg Wine Company brand, Clark is also involved with Clarksburg Wine Company’s custom crush business. Clark said the first Clarksburg Wine Company releases should be out some time in early spring of 2011.
